FM BetterForms is now Klai Studio, from Klai (pronounced "clay").

I didn’t change the name because the old one was uniquely bad. I changed it because it kept forcing the wrong story about what people were actually doing with the product.

Even early on, customers weren’t just building forms. They were building things like:

Once people started using it that way, the "forms" category became a constraint. It made the work sound smaller than it was.

Why the rebrand happened

For a long time I left the old name alone because it was familiar, and it was tied to an earlier chapter. I also had a habit of naming things in a “better-x” pattern. Some of that was practical, and some of it was probably founder ego.

Over time, though, the mismatch became friction. Every time I explained the product, I had to start by shrinking expectations and then expanding them again.

So yes, the name changed.

What mattered was admitting the category had become too small.

The rebrand is simply catching the language up to reality.

Why Klai

Klai gives us a brand that can stretch with the work. It’s a cleaner umbrella for what we’re building now and what we expect to build next.

This also lines up with where we think software is going. AI made it cheap to generate code. The hard part is building systems that stay safe, maintainable, and governable as they evolve. We are aiming the platform at that future: easier to start, but still controlled, reviewable, and durable.

Klai Studio is still the direct evolution of FM BetterForms. FileMaker remains a first-class part of the platform. The path is direct.

What changes is how honestly we describe the scope.
